Hot Cross Buns

Up

1 Cup Milk

¼ Cup Shortening

1/3 Cup Sugar

½ Tsp. Salt

1 Tsp. Sugar

2 Tbsp Lukewarm water

1 Egg

1 Tsp. Cinnamon

1 Cake Compressed Yeast

½ Tsp. Nutmeg

1 Cup Raisins

3 ½ Cups Flour

Scald milk, add shortening & sugar. Stir til dissolved & set aside to cool to lukewarm. Soften yeast in the warm water, then add the 1 tsp. sugar & salt when milk mixture is lukewarm. Add yeast mixture to it. Add beaten egg, raisins, & spice, & enough flour to make dough soft. Turn out on floured board & knead only a minute or so. Then place in greased bow. Cover & set in warm place until doubled in size. Form into buns. Cut cross in & let rise. Put in oven for 20 minutes at 350.
