Poppy Seed Cake

Up

Soak ½ cup poppy seed in 1 cup of water for 2 hours.

Sift together:

2 Cups Flour

3 Tsp. Baking powder

1 ½ Cups Sugar

1 Tsp. Salt

Form a well & add:

½ Cup Oil

7 Unbeaten egg yolks

Poppy seed with water

¼ Tsp. Baking soda

2 Tsp. Vanilla

Beat until smooth. In another large bowl beat 7 egg whites & ½ tsp. cream of tarter until very stiff peaks form. Pour batter gradually over whites & fold in gently. Pour into ungreased tube pan. Bake for 50 minutes at 325 & then at 350 for 10 to 15 minutes. Turn pan upside down to cool.
